Sometimes you feel that everybody around you is happy because you yourself feel the happiest u have ever been. It’s ironic that that feeling comes and goes and changes something inside you. That’s the feeling of nirvana. Nirvana is a funny word (a funny band too). Different people understand nirvana differently. I have seen people claiming to be nirvanised at certain times. A man drunk claiming to be an incarnation of Buddha, a stoned bastard listening to zeppelin soaked in the illusion of finding the ultimate happiness, the saints on TV channels assuring us that they know how being in nirvana feels like and how we can attain it too.
Is nirvana achievable? Can we one day be nirvanised? But, first of all, what is this nirvana?
The dictionary defines nirvana as being in the state of having achieved wisdom, compassion and extinction from all attachments. If nirvana is a funny word, wisdom is the funnier and absurd. A daily meeting with Baba Ramdev in early mornings and you are guaranteed the sweets of wisdom. Well, I think this is the idea behind the success of Ramdev or I should say Baba Ramdev brand. I visited Baba’s facility in Hardwar sometime back (not for wisdom, of course). But, just to have a look. It was a big facility, more of a hotel resort with plush gardens and a big medical canteen selling churans, goliis and other recipes.
What the hell?? Nirvana or no nirvana, I am allergic to churan and gollis.
If we look around, we would definitely find people like these claiming their associations with nirvana. The beauty of the nature amazes me, I listen to music, I sure have an eye for woman. We all are happy, ethical, non – violent, cool people. Why we are not injected with nirvana then??
How can we achieve nirvana? Well, believing in sadhus and tantriks is sure not one of them nor is the cigarette you smolder or the beer u waste!!
But I think this is the way it goes, we all are different and so are our beliefs. Somebody finds nirvana in being completely wasted in booze (doing and not thinking), some finds it in trance blowing their minds off with smoke rising in the sky. Some man in Texas may find nirvana road tripping drinking a 6 pack along the way. Some guy in Delhi may feel nirvana when his love says to him “I do”, some dude listening to the Megadeath concert might be nirvanised.

Very well said...however i would like to differ..i don’t think the stage of nirvana is achievable..or even a reality ...a person always craves for something more than he has..he can never be satisfied or forget about the materialistic pleasures..all these ways by which we conclude to have attained nirvana are mere ways to distance ourselves from the realities of life and to forget our pains and sorrows for a temporary time period.
well the note is very beautifully written. I agree that if we follow life to its tunes then we can attain Nirvana.I agree that that to attain Nirvana noneis of us need to srictly follow religious rituals. Though I myself dont know much about what Nirvana actually is but I know one thing from Gita Quoted by our Lord Krishna ," Action is thy Duty n Reward is not thy concren".
whatever, I strictly disagree with the fact if you say that drinking or smoking can make one attain Nirvana.I agree, listening to music can bring us to a state of ultimate happiness fogetting rest everything, may be that is Nirvana...that state of ultimate eternal happiness. But if you say that by smoking or drinking one can attain that state of happiness then it is true that one can attain artficial happiness....something which is not natural, not eternal. yes one will be relieved of tensions. but dats truly not Nirvana. An action which can never be morally justified cannever make one attain Nirvana. Though one is not causing any harm to others but any action that causes harm to oneself or others is not right and can never help one attain Nirvana. Nirvana can be attained either by living the way you live but fulfilling all your duties..simply.That is what Lord Krishna said- "Do your duty and leave the rest to me.I will give you whatever you want". this is what Nirvana according to me.
well to me Nirvana is the energy, it is the belief, vision from where you leave the materialistic things behind and tries to attain a new power which may be divine for some people. Nirvana is not attained by worshipping Gods or may be idolising something or somebody, its when u urself feel from within a motivation to think beyond the what we see everyday. I can recall my trip to Badrinath & Kedarnath (around 11k feet above) and understod thats its the power of ur own concentration or mediation that makes u control ur senses and u can see wht others cant. The whole idea is the IT (that power) is with me, u and with everybody, its just the state called (nirvana) where u tries to explore it.
its pretty well written and i must say the topic is bound to open the floodgates as there are so many people feeling the same way or asking the same questions...however..
i personally think 'nirvana' is for people who have gone past or are beyond the physiological, self esteem or safety needs when it comes to life....maslow was fuckin right...no two ways bout it.
hence... i will have to put it blatantly....youngsters talking about nirvana are either influenced by the personality traits full of sex drugs and booze which are inherent in a lifestyle of a 'rock' artist or a celebrity OR are influenced by reading and listening too much about spirituality.
More often than not...the former becomes the sole reason for people like us to be talking about 'self actualization' at 23 years of age..!!...i mean come on...we havnt even started....
The endeavor gets full marks mudit...but the its not exactly the age to be talking bout 'gettin nirvanized'.....go storm the industry freakshow...well talk about it in 2040...cheers.
